Outdoor Play & Learning
We began our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) journey in November 2015. After having achieved the Platinum OPAL Award in February 2017, and again in July 2023, our journey continues. Children’s playtimes are filled with adventure, fun, challenges, laughter and shared with friends and adults.
Since 2014, our playtimes have improved by the creation of these areas:
- A tranquillity garden
- A big mud play kitchen
- A big digging area
- A big construction area
- Wild flower garden
- Pond viewing area
- Water play
- Wheeled ‘vehicles’ on yard
- Music to dance to on stage areas
- Dressing up clothes
- Social areas
- Small world area
- Ball games
- Designated football space
- Sports equipment to play with
Thank you to all parents and carers who have embraced OPAL ethos.
“It was a delight to visit Edmondsley and see that the quality of your playtimes has continued to be truly exceptional. Your site provides children with a rich variety of play activities. Who could ever be bored at playtime at Edmondsley? From den building to mud kitchens, parkour to performance, small world to reading retreat. Your children have the freedom to play and become whoever they choose to be on a daily basis and that in itself is invaluable. Happy children equals healthy minds, better able to learn and thrive in a world of uncertainty.” — OPAL Assessor 2024
